Strong-Motion Station Maintenance and Data Collection for the Baoshan No. 3 Reservoir

Project Scope

As part of the "Feasibility Planning for the Baoshan No. 3 Reservoir," feasibility assessment studies began in 2025 across multiple technical subjects. Active faults located within 20 kilometers of the proposed site include the Xincheng Fault, Hsinchu Fault, Hukou Fault, and Shitan Fault.

To characterize the site’s seismic environment:

  1. A seismic monitoring station is planned to be installed at the site for seismic observation.
  2. Near-surface shear-wave velocity measurements in the top 30 meters (Vs30) were conducted.

Principles for Selecting Seed Ground Motion Time Histories:

  1. Spectral Similarity: The response spectrum of the selected seed motion should closely match the shape of the target design response spectrum.
  2. Geological and Topographical Consistency: The geological, site, and topographic conditions at the recording station should be similar to those of the project site.
  3. Magnitude Compatibility: The earthquake magnitude of the selected record should be close to the design earthquake magnitude for the project site.
  4. Adequate Amplitude: The peak ground acceleration (PGA) of the selected time history should not be excessively small.
  5. Reasonable Epicentral Distance: The epicentral/rupture distance of the recording station should be reasonable, considering the distance between the project site and the controlling fault.
