The ecological spatial data currently provided were compiled in 2025, and the next update is scheduled for 2028.
The Water Resources Agency submitted the “Integrated Improvement and Adaptation Plan for Centrally Administered River Basins (2021–2026)” to the Executive Yuan for approval. The work items include the continued implementation of ecological surveys. The Water Resources Agency also established implementation guidelines for the Plan, stipulating that ecological fixed-station surveys shall be conducted once every three years and that ecological sensitivity information maps shall be produced.
According to the “Implementation Guidelines for the Integrated Improvement and Adaptation Plan for Centrally Administered River Basins”, promulgated by the Water Resources Agency on July 16, 2021, ecological surveys are divided into two types: ecological fixed-station surveys and ecological project-specific surveys. Ecological fixed-station surveys are conducted by the Water Resources Planning Branch once every three years.
With reference to the “Operational Guidelines for Ecological Surveys under the Integrated Improvement and Adaptation Plan for Centrally Administered River Basins”, promulgated by the Water Resources Agency on June 15, 2022, ecological fixed-station surveys are planned and implemented accordingly. The main objective is to investigate three major groups of aquatic organisms in river environments—fish, shrimp and crabs, and aquatic insects—including data on species abundance, body length, life history, and reproductive status.
A total of 250 fixed sampling stations are established across northern, central, eastern, and southern Taiwan for the collection of baseline ecological data and field surveys of riverine aquatic environments, in order to understand trends in aquatic biota and obtain ecological information.
