Current Meter Calibration Laboratory (Calibration Field Accredited Laboratory No. 1707)

Background

The Current Meter Calibration Laboratory of the Planning Branch is the only facility in Taiwan dedicated to current meter calibration.Initially established in 1976 with an electric calibration trolley system, the facility was upgraded in 2001 to a fully automated wireless calibration trolley system, which remains operational today. Designed and built in accordance with international standards, the facility is accredited as a calibration laboratory (Accreditation No. 1707) by the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF).

Technical Features & Capabilities

The laboratory houses two primary current meter calibration systems:

  • Cup-Type Current Meter System: Operates along a 120-meter straight towing tank using a specialized trolley, offering a calibration velocity range of 0.3~6 m/s.
  • Handheld Current Meter System: To meet the growing demand for handheld surface velocity meters in recent years, the laboratory added handheld calibration services and successfully passed TAF accreditation. Utilizing an annular flume and handheld current meter calibration apparatus, this system covers a calibration velocity range of 0.3~8 m/s.

Certification & Application

Calibration procedures adhere strictly to TAF-accredited documentation standards. Reports issued by the laboratory are authorized to display the joint TAF and ILAC-MRA logos, The reports are internationally recognized through the TAF and ILAC-MRA mutual recognition arrangement.

By providing highly reliable calibration services, the laboratory enhances the credibility of flow measurement data across rivers, canals, and waterways, supporting sustainable water resource and green energy management.
