In celebration of World Rivers Day 2024, the Water Resources Agency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs has scheduled a nationwide "Clean Rivers, Protect the Ocean: Let’s Do It Together" virtual beach cleanup event on September 21. Starting at 8:30 a.m., the Water Resources Agency will lead ten river management offices, along with volunteers, from the main venue in Taitung, while simultaneously connecting via video conference for a collective pledge and live broadcast of the event. This initiative encourages everyone to join forces in the protection of river and coastal environments.

As the authority responsible for central-managed rivers, regional drainage, and general seawalls in the Taoyuan-Hsinchu-Miaoli area, the Second River Management Office held river and beach cleanups today at six locations, including Hsinchu City’s Touqian River at Kulingjiao Levee, Hsinchu City's Xiangshan Seawall, Hsinchu County’s Hongmaogang Seawall and Fengkeng Seawall, as well as Miaoli County's Baishatun Seawall in Tongxiao Township and Fangli Seawall in Yuanli Township. The event attracted 860 volunteers from various organizations, including Lions Clubs International (District 300B), Hsinchu City Guanghua Lions Club, Hsinchu City Industrial and Commercial Association, Xinfeng Township Changqing Association, Xinfeng Township Environmental Volunteer Team, Miaoli County Baixi Community Development Association in Tongxiao Township, Fangli Community Development Association in Yuanli Township, and companies such as Dunyong Technology Co., Ltd., Dunyong Information Co., Ltd., Zaohe Electronics Co., Ltd., and Csun Manufacturing Co., Ltd.

Director Yang Renjie expressed his gratitude to the corporate and association volunteers for participating in the "2024 National River Day" beach cleanup event, showing their commitment to clean rivers and oceans through concrete actions. The Second River Management Office prioritizes creating safe riverfront spaces and maintaining diverse natural water environments. The office also collaborates with local governments in its jurisdiction, fostering a shared vision of mutual prosperity. They strive to promote educational activities that integrate local customs with the unique characteristics of the riverbanks, enhancing the cultural, environmental, and scenic value of the waterfront and gaining public support. Yang also hopes that while enjoying the riverfront, people will contribute to its cleanliness—whether by taking their trash with them or joining a cleanup team. The collective effort is key to sustaining water environments, making our rivers and coasts more beautiful through public-private collaboration.
