In response to the Executive Yuan's “Salute to the Sea” policy and in celebration of World Environment Day 2024, the local governments of Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Miaoli are organizing a joint autumn beach cleanup and creative market event today (28th), in collaboration with central government agencies and cross-county local governments. This event emphasizes environmental education with themes such as low-carbon, net-zero emissions, and sustainable development. The Second River Management Office of the Water Resources Agency, responsible for coastal management in the Taoyuan-Hsinchu-Miaoli area, teamed up with the Hsinchu County Government, local village and community groups, seawall adoption organizations, environmental volunteers, and private enterprises. A total of 720 participants cleaned up marine debris along the coast of Xinfeng Township’s mangrove scenic area and the Hongmaogang seawall. Over 100 students from Xinfeng Township's Puhe Elementary School and Fuxing Elementary School, led by their principals and teachers, also joined this educational activity.

In the coastal areas of Xinfeng Township, including the Xinfeng Seawall, Hongmaogang Seawall, and Fengkeng Seawall, the Hsinchu County Government has developed several projects, such as the Fengkeng Rest Beach (converted from the former Fengkeng Fishing Port), the Xinfeng Mangrove Ecological Area's boardwalk and pavilions, the restoration of the Xinfeng Stone Weirs, and the new cycling bridge. These initiatives aim to enhance the unique coastal beauty of Hsinchu County. The Second River Management Office has also partnered with local associations and environmental volunteer teams to adopt and maintain the seawalls and beaches through a public-private partnership, ensuring clean and pleasant coastlines for recreational activities.

Director Yang Renjie of the Second River Management Office remarked that the Taoyuan-Hsinchu-Miaoli coastline is extensive, featuring diverse landscapes such as algal reefs, stone weirs, national wetlands, wildlife conservation areas, mangrove conservation zones, windbreak forests, and sandy beaches. He encourages the public to plan a leisurely bike trip during holidays to appreciate the beauty of the blue sea and sky in different seasons. Visitors are also reminded to take only memories and leave no waste behind, helping to preserve the precious marine ecosystem and creating a high-quality, sustainable coastal environment for all.
