Tropical disturbance "98W" strengthened into a tropical depression early this morning (4th). If its development accelerates, the system could become this year's fourth Typhoon Danas by Saturday morning. According to current path predictions, all areas of Taiwan may potentially have typhoon warnings issued. Taiwan's eastern region and Kinmen area are experiencing significant rainfall. The Bahe Branch Office has today initiated preparation and deployment, fully monitoring and preventing internal and external water flooding hotspots to reduce typhoon and flood disasters.
The Water Resources Agency held a flood control preparedness and response video conference this afternoon. After the meeting, Kuo Chien-hung, Director of the 8th River Management Branch, stated that they will closely monitor the typhoon's movement, fully initiate flood control preparations, and implement the three major water management goals of "minimum inundation area, fastest drainage time, and highest safety standards" to reduce disaster risks. Currently, inspections and functional checks of dikes, water gates, seawalls, and other facilities along the Beinan River water system and central government-managed rivers in the Kinmen area have been completed. Pumps and flood control equipment have also been tested to ensure they can be immediately deployed for response. Additionally, flood control volunteers and construction contractors have been notified in advance to remain vigilant, inspections of coastal protection structures in Taitung's Chenggong and Fengli areas have been strengthened to prevent long-wave attacks, and emergency response mechanisms will be activated based on the typhoon's development to implement joint defense operations.
The 8th River Management Branch reminds residents in Taitung and Kinmen to clean balcony drainage holes and residential drainage facilities early, prepare disaster prevention equipment such as flood gates and sandbags, enhance community-based disaster prevention capabilities, and avoid coastal activities to prevent sudden wind and waves. The public is urged to continuously monitor the latest meteorological and water information, and make good use of disaster prevention tools such as the "Water Resources Agency Water Situation App," "Central Weather Administration QPlus App," and the "Disaster Prevention Information Website (https://fhy.wra.gov.tw)" to ensure personal safety.
