To support solar PV deployment, the Bureau of Energy, MOEA participated in the 2013 Solar Taiwan exhibition, and organized "the 2013 Solar PV City Forum" that invited municipal governments, including New Taipei City, Yunlin County, Tainan City, and Kaohsiung City, to share related experience and achievements. The exhibition pavilions and solar city forum were to ensure public trust for the policy, various investments made by companies' for the latest solar PV technology, and municipal governments' support for solar PV deployment.
Solar Taiwan took place from 18 to 20 June 2013. The "Solar Rooftop Gallery" showcased three themes-the million rooftop PVs program section for policy promotion, solar PV application in everyday life, and latest solar PV technology.
Vice President Wu Den-yih attended the opening ceremony, and Director Su Jin-sheng of The Bureau of Energy featured three themes by introducing the current solar PV policy, the new dye-sensitized solar cell technology, and BIPV that integrates buildings and solar PVs.
Deputy Director Tseng Tseng-tsai of the energy technology division of the Bureau of Energy later hosted the"2013 Solar City Forum" and unveiled that seeking strategy for building consensus on the future of renewable energy are the purposes for the "Renewable Energy Summit and Regional Experts Forum". Deputy Director Tseng also mentioned about the central government's commitment on solar PV and its current status.
The "Renewable Energy Development Act" mandates The Taiwan Power Company to purchase electricity from renewable energies at the government set rates, and a guaranteed purchase agreement for 20 years. Renewable energy is still in its early development stages in Taiwan and around the world, and mostly fueled by government subsidies, the market will expand in the near future with great potential, the Bureau of Energy has recognized the need and established the "Million Rooftop PVs Promotion Office" in 2012 to lay a solid foundation for solar PV promotion and provide assistances regarding government policies and regulations as well as financing services.
2013 Solar Taiwan closed on June 20th successfully and offered the general public an opportunity to learn about the Bureau of Energy's promotion of million rooftop solar PVs and related incentives, as well as the latest technologies developed by the Industrial Technology Research Institute and their related applications.
